2017/2018 Musical Mornings Series


  Musical Mornings is a series of salon-style concerts hosted by internationally acclaimed and celebrated pianists Elizabeth and Marcel Bergmann. The morning begins with coffee, tea and treats followed by a classical concert led by the Bergmann Duo featuring world-class artists. This is the sixth Musical Mornings series at the Evergreen, which is sure to delight and enthrall audiences.

The Bergmann Duo will open the season with a  programme of duet transciptions of favourite operatic repertoire  – ranging from Mozart’s Magic Flute and Rossini’s Barber of Seville to Liszt’s virtuosic fantasy of Bellini’s Sonnambula.

Classical, Cuban, Creative – Clarinet

Clarinet wizard and verstaile improvisor, Francois Houle will join the Bergmann’s for an enticing exploration of the sonic world of the clarinet. On the programme will be works by Saint Saens, Bernstein and Cuban composer and jazz-great, Paquito d’Rivera.

At the Movies – Romantic and Dramatic Music for Valentines

Music from the big screen will be the focal point of the programme. Ennio Morricone’s music from The Mission  and Jerome Moross’ music from the classic western film, The Big Country are the featured pieces. Guest narrator, David Mann will be joining the duo for this programme.

Bohemian Sounds

The exciting and energetic Borealis String Quartet are the guests for the programme featuring the romantic and spirited Dvorak piano quintet.  Marcel Bergmann’s own fiery version of Piazzolla Tangos for piano duet and string quartet will round out the programme.

From Berlin to Hollywood

Vocalist, actress and writer, Onalea Gilbertson will join the Bergmann’s to present a cross section of repertoire that emerged from the collaboration between the daring revolutionary German playright and poet, Bertold Brecht and composers Kurt Weill, Hanns Eisler and Paul Dessau. Selections from the Three Penny Opera and other hits will be performed in this entertaining cabaret style performance.

Musical Menagerie

With a dash of humour, former Musical Morning’s host Sarah Hagen brings the joy of classical music inspired by animals to the Evergreen Cultural Centre. From butterflies to elephants, this wild collection will include works by Debussy,  Grieg, Stravinsky, and more!
