Opening Reception: Saturday, March 21, 2015, 2 – 5pm
Object Things features a collection of new and recent paintings by Vancouver artist Ben Reeves. In one painting, Reeves depicts a street scene swept by rain. The surface of the painting is dappled by minute, thickly painted raindrops. A sideways glance at another work reveals a single drop of rain drawn from this scene but enlarged to about fifty times the size. Reeves has been preoccupied throughout his work with the ways in which the material of paint can be used to transform a thing into an object. The paintings are provocatively configured where the experience of one painting transforms the experience of each and every other painting.
Ben Reeves, before and after, 2011, oil on burlap, 76.2 x 91.44 cm.
