“The duo’s sound mixes the new school folk of Mumford and Sons with a dance rhythm that keeps the music sounding light and upbeat. It also doesn’t hurt that their songs are very catchy and aided by how well Austin and Otten’s voices complement each other.” ~Examiner~
Big Little Lions is the ferocious songwriting duo of Helen Austin and Paul Otten. Both successful singer/songwriters in their own right, they met at a songwriting conference and then started the band from afar, with Helen based on Vancouver Island and Paul in Cincinnati, OH. While Paul was producing for Helen’s JUNO Award winning album, they became Big Little Lions and together have won many awards including 1st place in the International Songwriting Competition, the top prize of Song of the Year in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition and a Canadian Folk Music Award for Ensemble of the Year. BEN BEVERIDGE TRIO
What do you get when you mix a master jazz bassist, a groove-ridden funk drummer, and a reclusive songwriting multi-instrumental traditionalist? Ben Beveridge Trio ON TOUR!
The Ben Beveridge Trio is building a significant presence, with touring and a new release this spring, their disparate tones and colors are melding into an impressive wash of musical light. Compelling, heartbreaking or uplifting, feel a full range of emotions as they weave story, song, and melody through a multi-instrumental exploration of modern traditional music, Canadiana, bluegrass, Celtic…who knows, maybe even classical? Seeing them live is to witness their mastery of a musical craft, the talented trio of Ben Beveridge (Multi-instrumentalist: Fiddle, Mandolin, Guitar and Vocals), Dylan Ranney (Percussion, Cajon and Vocals) and Jonathan Tromsness ( Standup bass and Vocals) share tales of love, reminders of home and hope for a life lived to the depths and heights of experience.
With a vocal reminiscent of vintage country, Texas swing, and 20th century folk, Ben weaves his mastery of fiddle, mandolin, guitar and fearless production into subtle, insightful stories of life. Ben has twice been named the Saskatchewan Grand Champion Fiddle Player, is a perennial competitor at the Canadian Grand Masters Fiddle Championship, and in 2005 was an inaugural recipient of the Lieutenant Governor’s Celebration of the Arts Pin, in recognition of a significant contribution to the arts in Saskatchewan.
