Evergreen Instructors

At Evergreen Cultural Centre we aim to provide the best possible experience for patrons of all ages. Evergreen instructors are professional artists in their field, each with years of teaching experience, who are dedicated not only to the arts, but to current pedagogy and instructional practices.


WENDY ANDERSON (VISUAL ARTS)

A freelance artist, designer and arts educator, Wendy Anderson is a graduate of the Bachelor of Design Program at the Alberta College of Art and Design. She has over twenty years experience teaching and working with children in the community at large with Learning through the Arts and Evergreen’s On the Road art program.

CHRISTIE LIM (VISUAL ARTS)

Christie Lim is a graduate of Emily Carr University of Art and Design (BFA,) and she has studied textiles in the Advanced Textiles Program at Capilano University, and as part of Tex’Atelier in Agen, France. Lim has developed a unique and provocative artistic practice in textiles which was most recently presented in the exhibition Here and through and Back and Through, in spring 2015 in the Art Gallery at Evergreen.  She has been engaged as an instructor and volunteer at numerous arts organizations throughout the lower mainland and she is passionate about fostering an explorative and open approach to learning and creativity.

VANESSA MacLEOD (VISUAL ARTS)

Vanessa MacLeod is a freelance illustrator and cartoonist from Vancouver.  Over the last ten years, Vanessa has collaborated with clients to create logos for small businesses, illustrations for websites and children’s books.  In that time, she has discovered her passion for comics, comics art and storytelling.  She is currently working on her own self-published comics.

LAUREN BARNETT (DANCE)

Lauren Barnett has been dancing since she was three years old. After fifteen years of training in ballet, jazz, tap, modern, musical theatre, and acting at the Caulfield School of Dance, she began working as a dance instructor at Evergreen and at Port Moody Recreation Centre. Lauren won several dance scholarships while training, and has competed in dance festivals, such as Peak Invitational, Surrey Dance Festival, and Coquitlam Dance Festival. She has also performed in Walt Disney Land Park and California Adventure Park.

SHAY BURNHAM (DANCE)

Shay has been teaching professionally for the past 11 years for numerous studios around the lower mainland. She began her training at 3 and hasn’t stopped since. At the age of 12 Shay began assisting her instructors, and had her first professional job as a choreographer at just 17. Shay’s passion for dance transcends into her fun filled, unique classes. She has received numerous choreography awards for her pieces, and has had the honor of choreographing for some of B.C’s most talented dancers. Well versed in jazz, lyrical, hip hop, acro, tap, burlesque, and stage; her wide range of capability keeps her sought after in the industry. Last year marked the start of her adjudicating career. Shay was asked judge for one of BC’s fastest growing dance events; Synergy Dance Competition. Recently she was selected to run Carla Catherwood’s next Army of Sass Coquitlam location. She will be training in Toronto, with plans to bring some sass to the Tri-Cities in the fall of 2015! Shay prides herself on always continuing to learn and grow and trains regularly at top facilities in Canada and the U.S. She is currently a full time choreographer at two top studios in Vancouver.

MICHAEL CHARROIS (PERFORMING ARTS)

Michael Charrois is a professional actor (Equity, UBCP/ACTRA) with over twenty-five years experience teaching drama to students aged five to adult. Michael studied drama at the University of Alberta and the Banff School of Fine Arts and is always upgrading his skills, most recently with the Arts Club Actors Intensive. Michael writes plays, performs as a Master of Ceremonies, is a federal political candidate and professional street performer.

DAMON JANG (PERFORMING ARTS)

Damon Jang is multi-disciplinary and holds a Bachelor of Performing Arts, Musical Theatre Diploma from Capilano University and more recently is a graduate of the Banff Centre Summer Musical Theatre Intensive program. He has been lucky enough to work for companies such as: Theatre Under The Stars, Gateway Theatre, Firehall Arts, Applause Musicals, Fighting Chance and DreamRider Theatre to name a few. Damon is also a freelance theatre publicist and administrator having worked for several professional companies and organizations.

MANDY TULLOCH (PERFORMING ARTS)

Mandy Tulloch has been working professionally as an actor/dancer/singer/writer on stage and screen since the age of six. She has received awards and accolades including “Excellence in Education Initiative” and recently wrote, directed and co-produced The Bullying Games production. Mandy also has the honour of being selected as one of the 75 finalists in the 5th annual RBC Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards program.

JENNIFER PIELAK (PERFORMING ARTS)

Jennifer Pielak is an actor, improviser and singer who has been performing all her life and has been teaching and directing improv for 9 years. She has trained as a performer in Vancouver and Chicago and has her BA in Psychology and Philosophy from UBC. As someone who loves to spearhead ambitious projects and create constantly, Jennifer loves to collaborate with performers who like to dream big. She jumps into her classes with energy, focus and a drive to help inspire her students move beyond what they think is possible.

AMANDA WILLIAMSON (PERFORMING ARTS)

Amanda is a graduate of the Musical Theatre Program at Capilano University, and is currently studying Theatre Performance at SFU. She has worked as a singer, actor, and dancer for Uncle Randy Productions, Capilano Suspension Bridge and Park, Cornerstone Theatre (Alberta) and the Tickle Trunk Players. Presently, she performs in a musical trio called The Beauty Shop Dolls.

CJ JACKMAN ZIGANTE (PERFORMING ARTS)

C J Jackman Zigante is a credited actress, writer, director, singer, comedienne, dancer, and choreographer [UBCP /ACTRA]. She is a graduate of both the Canadian Drama Academy and Second City Improv Program, and has worked in the film, television, entertainment industry for over forty years, beginning as a child actor. Some of her most recent film and TV credits include: She Made Them Do It, Psych, Saved, The Ron Clark Story, Dead Zone, and Scary Movie 3. She has appeared on stage professionally both as a singer and comedienne.
