Evergreen Cultural Centre offers students the opportunity to experience live professional theatre, dance, and music in their own community through our Student Matinee program.
Students will experience will experience different disciplines, styles and forms of performance in age-appropriate shows. Artist Talks and Study Guides may be available, depending on the performance.
With the support of BC Touring Council through the Community Presenter Youth Engagement Program, we are excited to announce a series of matinee performances for students, specially selected from our 2016/2017 Season.

A MIDSUMMER NIGHTS DREAM

A brand-sparkling-new adaptation of Shakespeare’s whimsical classic about fairies, love potions and talking donkeys. In this version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, William Shakespeare acts as a Puck-like emcee and enlists the help of the audience using improvisation, ultimately recreating the play through fun and imagination!
TIM SARS TRIO

This trio creates a fine line between swingin’ New Orleans street beat, chamber jazz, and quirky driving klezmer. Joyous melodies coupled with stellar musicianship create a beautiful unified atmosphere that is sure to delight!
MUSICAL MORNINGS WITH THE BERGMANN’S
A wonderful introduction to classical music performed by top professional musicians. Musical Mornings opens a window to the world of classical music, featuring virtuosic piano duo Elizabeth and Marcel Bergmann with a different guest soloist each session. The repertoire ranges from Baroque to Classical to Romantic to contemporary to newer works which demonstrate the full range of the featured instrument or voice. Each concert is 75-minutes in the Studio Theatre with informative introductions to the specific composers or pieces. Recommended for Grades 6+.

Beethoven and the Beatles with Mark Ferris, violin

What do Beethoven and the Beatles have in common? Find out with Vancouver Opera Orchestra concert master and member of the Yaletown String Quartet, Mark Ferris as he joins the Bergmann’s in this diverse program ranging from Beethoven to some of the songs of the world’s most famous pop group.
Blue Autumn with Beth Root Sandvoss, cello

Marcel and Elizabeth are joined by Calgary cellist, Beth Root Sandvoss to perform a program that will feature Marcel Bergmann’s Blue Autumn, a piece especially written for and commissioned by Beth in 2006. They will also include some favourites of the cello repertoire highlighting the beautiful singing quality of the lower string instrument.
From Bach to Brubeck with Rod Thomas Squance, percussion

This concert features music for piano and mallets starting out with a Bach cello suite transcribed for marimba. Over the years, Marcel and Rod have worked on many projects and have developed numerous different combinations and arrangements of their own. The artists will present an eclectic mix of music from some of their own compositions to pieces from the jazz and popular repertoire.
Three’s a Crowd… not! with Sarah Hagen

Sarah Hagen returns to join the Bergmann Duo in a program from 1 to 6 hands. The trio will present an entertaining array of repertoire that in addition to their talents as chamber musicians, features their many acrobatic skills as they maneuver their way way through a complicated choreography with up to six hands on one keyboard. Be prepared to have fun listening and watching!
L’historie du Tango with Paolo Bertolussi, flute

Be prepared for some hot and fiery music with tango being the focal point of this programme. In addition, the Bergmann’s and flute virtuoso Paolo Bertoloussi will explore some other dance inspired works for flute and piano. This energetic programme will feature works by composers such Piazzolla, Prokoviev, Poulenc and more.
