ABOUT THE SHOW

Ballet Victoria’s Nutcracker is a 21st century family tradition with everything you expect from a HOLIDAY SEASON production. An original Christmas tale danced to Tchaikovsky’s timeless score of the Nutcracker. The production boasts lively and imaginative choreography, hilarious pantomime, beautiful costumes, magic and a few surprises for the whole family. Alongside the professional company dancers, over 30 local young ballet students bring the story to life and fill everyone’s heart with Holiday Cheer. 

ABOUT BALLET VICTORIA

Founded in 2002, Ballet Victoria is a boutique professional ballet company with 14 dancers that offers four yearly mainstage productions that can tour internationally. Our performances are dramatic, technically demanding, and laced with humour. As a not-for-profit and a charitable organization in the 21st century, BV strives to make dance accessible and relevant to a wide range of audiences by being socially and culturally inclusive, satisfying the appetites of those who discover dance, as well as the expert aficionado. 

Under the direction of Paul Destrooper, BV uncompromisingly mixes classical ballet with various dance genres to a variety of music, including rock and roll, opera, film sound tracks, and choral works. Our ballets draw inspiration from film, theatre, fashion, and design. The combinations and juxtapositions of diverse genres, cultures, and media create a rich and surprising range of choreographies that literally thread people and cultures together. Our performances create an emotional bond between the artists and the public, and also between audience members. Having produced close to one hundred new works, including 10 full length ballets, and toured in Canada, the USA and Mexico, Ballet Victoria’s artistic team is constantly exploring new territory.
