Event Details
The Karin Plato Quintet, lead by Canadian Jazz Vocalist Karin Plato, performs an eclectic program of songs, jazz standards, original songs, and arrangements of pop and traditional songs. This is accessible music with some delightful surprises for the audience. You may rediscover a song you heard in the past. You may hear the debut of a new song. Karin will include her uke on some songs and she will be at the piano for others. Mostly, this is a quintet who listen deeply to each other and help bring the music to life with skill and heartfelt playing.
In 2020, Karin’s recording “This Could Be the One”, featuring the Karin Plato Quintet, was selected as a “record to die for” by Robert Deutsch in the Stereophile Magazine:
“For two and a half decades, B.C.-based jazz vocalist, Karin Plato, has been carving her own place on the Canadian jazz scene. Her vocals are often beautifully understated, yet, with such an expert control of her instrument, she brings fresh readings of old standards and crafts her own intricate tunes with a delivery that sounds effortless” – Voices in Jazz CKUA
Karin’s quintet features: James Danderfer (bass clarinet/clarinet) / Chris Gestrin (piano) / Laurence Mollerup (bass) / Joe Poole (drums)
