Contemporary meets Classical, and East meets West in this double bill featuring two incredible musicians.

First, Farouk Alsajee, a talented Canadian musician and vocalist of Iraqi descent, sings and performs original compositions in Arabic as he plays the Oud, a breathtaking Middle Eastern plucked instrument. His music spans traditional and contemporary, bringing the hauntingly beautiful oud music into the 21st century for a new generation to enjoy.

Michelle Kwan follows up with astonishing covers of contemporary music on the Guzheng, a classical Chinese harp-like instrument. Watch as she gives bands like Metallica and Guns & Roses a traditional twist, with a few classical Chinese songs thrown in the mix.

Farouk Alsajee | Farouk is a Canadian of Iraqi descent singer, composer and software developer. His music has reached thousands of people both locally and internationally, and he entertains a hot and growing fanbase on social media, especially after launching MaysoonMusic, a Vancouver based full-scale music production, licensing, distribution, and artist management company that has over 200k subscribers on Youtube. Farouk’s music could be described as having a chat with Mesopotamian gods who are cheerful yet pretty deep.

Michelle Kwan | Michelle Kwan is a Guzheng player from Vancouver, Canada. At age 12 she began learning the 21 stringed traditional Chinese harp. Being born in Vancouver, Michelle’s parents encouraged her to learn the ancient Chinese harp to immerse her in Chinese culture. After spending numerous years playing classical music, she decided to venture out and use the Guzheng to play genres of music that are mainstream. Michelle began her own Youtube channel and it has gained over 2,000,000 views. Michelle has been featured on various media including Guitar World, GlobalTV, CBC and Huffington Post. Michelle is also a Guzheng teacher and is passionate about educating students ranging from young kids to seniors on the art of playing the Guzheng.

Adults + Seniors: $20 | Students: $16
