Evergreen Cultural Centre is hosting a Youth Engagement Residency with THE CENTURIONS PROJECT. This residency is part of an ongoing collaboration between Playwright Sally Stubbs, Director Lynna Goldhar Smith, and a selected group of talented youth actors to explore and produce Sally’s play CENTURIONS. The team will be rehearsing the play during the month of August, and there will be two public performances of CENTURIONS August 21 and 22 as part of Evergreen’s 2019 summer season.

Centurions was initially inspired by an assault Sally experienced as a child and it’s impact on her life.

18 Year old Mark is held in a police station and interrogated about a violent crime. He holds his story close but his secrets are unearthed and illuminated for the audience via his memories, imagination, and films. It becomes clear that the crime is intertwined with another violent act–a rape- and his obsession with making films. Mark is happiest behind the camera, watching, always watching. Digital video production, live feed and pre-recorded, is integral to the premise, conflict and mystery at the heart of Centurions.
