THE TRAVELLING MABELS

The Travelling Mabels’ show is presented to the audience in a casual, kitchen party, story telling format. The show is 80% original composition with a few known and not so well known traditional or cover songs added to each set. Instrumentation consists of acoustic guitars, bass, a small snare/kick drum set up, piano, accordion and harmonica. You can expect plenty of three part harmony and a generous helping of old jokes and story telling.their respective unique brands of humour!

GET BACK UNPLUGGED

With the warmth of voices in five part harmony, and the simple beauty of acoustic instruments, Get Back Unplugged aims to revisit some of the best loved songs of late-period Beatles, and to deliver them with the joy and spontaneity of friends singing around a kitchen table. Bringing together six stellar singers and players who, between them, have straddled the worlds of folk, Celtic, blues, jazz, and classical music, this intimate and fun performance does not try to imitate the Fab Four, but rather seeks to present interpretations that are authentic to the musicians’ own unique voices.

RAY BONNEVILLE

Acclaimed raconteur Ray Bonneville strips his bluesy Americana down to its essentials and steeps it in the humid grooves of the South, creating a compelling poetry of hard living and deep feeling. His ninth release, At King Electric, delivers more than his trademark grit and groove. Songs such as The Next Card to Fall and Codeine gleam with intimate narratives of characters reaching for hope and wrestling with despair. Rich guitar and harmonica lines resonate over spare but spunky rhythms, while Bonneville’s deep, evocative voice confesses life’s harsh realities.

The perfect answer to winter chill, come share some hot and swinging family-friendly Christmas cheer with Vancouver’s hottest swingin’ jazz group VanDjango, stellar vocalist LJ Mounteney and superb celtic guitarist and singer Andrew Hillhouse! SARAH HAGEN: THE GOLDBERG VARIATIONS

Sarah Hagen brings this classic programme featuring Bach’s formidable Goldberg Variations as part of the celebration of the recent release of her recording of the masterwork. Cherished by many, the Goldberg Variations are emblematic of keyboard virtuosity, rich expression, and hardcore classical interpretation. Sarah will offer a short introduction to this marvellous and intense piece before playing the full work.

TAMAR ILANA & VENTANAS

Tamar Ilana’s childhood was spent gathering songs from small villages on the edge of the Mediterranean and dancing flamenco, and Ventanas’ band members are from across the globe. Together, and in true Canadian fashion, they intertwine their musical cultures to create an all-encompassing world of their own.

JAMES KEELAGHAN & JEZ LOWE

A chance-meeting at a folk festival almost thirty years ago has led to a musical collaboration between two singer-songwriters, James Keelaghan from Canada and Jez Lowe from England, that has seen them play to audiences around the globe, from North America to Australia and to Europe, and which continues to this day.

THE MCDADES

With vocal harmonies that can only come from a family, and an obvious love for each other and their music, The McDades’ sound is immersed in the spirit of improvisation. Combining original tunes and unique interpretations of traditional songs, their performances feature both energetic instrumentals and moving vocals performed in English and French. JOSH FEINBERG

Josh has been dazzling audiences around the world for 20 years. He began his musical training at 4 years old with western classical and jazz on piano and bass in New York City, studying with some of the most accomplished musicians on the scene, and was hailed as a prodigy performing in jazz venues and concert halls across New York. Josh is a student of the Maihar Gharana (school of playing) and has earned the love and respect of connoisseurs of Hindustani music, as well art-music communities around the world.

ANDREA SUPERSTEIN: OH MOTHER
